I Love Nail Polish Winter collection - Review

Ready for some winter/holiday glitters? Then read on, because I received some great ones that'll surely put you in the mood for the season! :) The polishes that I'm talking about are from the Winter collection from I Love Nail Polish.

Normally I just post swatches, but I wanted to show you the packaging of these polishes as well. Does this packaging make you think of an Indie brand? No right? I think it looks great!

Brabra from ILNP really gave a lot of attention to the packaging of these polishes! It's always nice to have polishes delivered to your door, but these felt even more as a pressie. It's not necessary of course, but when you want to spoil yourself, this just adds to it, don't you think? :)

Every polish even has a matching label at the bottom, how cute is that!

But enough about the packaging now, because it's the polish that matters, so let's have a look at them! I swatched all the polishes on 2 different basecolors, to give you a better idea of how they look. My swatches are with 1 medium thick layer of glitter and a layer of top coat.

Once Upon A Starry Night

Different sizes and shapes of silver, blue, white and holographic glitters. It applied easy, no dabbing needed to get this coverage, but this polish has little stars in it and those I did need to fish out a bit. I thought those stars looked cute in the bottle but would maybe be a bit too much on my nails, but next time I'd add some more of those!

This polish mainly has gold, green and red glitters in different shapes, and there are some very fine holographic glitters in it as well. This one had a tiny bit of piling on the tips if I wasn't a bit more careful with the application, but nothing special. I used a less thick coat of this one compared to the others.

Essence Black Is Back on index/middle and China Glaze 2030 on ring/pink.

Gold, pink, teal, green and blue glitters, again in different shapes and sizes. Very colorful and layered over black I think it makes an excellent New Year's Eve mani! Easy application.

A finer mix of gold and copper glitters. Festive, warm and elegant, and as you can see, packed with glitters! It applied even and easy.

Green, light green, white and red, bottled Christmas with some snowflakes on top! The bigger glitters piled slightly, but with a gentle application it wasn't a problem at all.

Different shades and shapes of teal and white glitter, and some tiny holographic ones as well. And yes, slightly different photos of this one, the sun went away and I tested my new lamp with this polish. Need to mess with my camera a bit more, but I think it'll do =) Anyway, back to the polish. These polishes are all packed with glitter and this one was no exception, in fact, it was almost a bit too packed for my liking, haha.

And just because I think glitters always look so nice in the bottle, some bottleshots of these glitters :)

As I said above, these are packed with glitter and with all the different shapes I expected having to dab them on to get an even coverage, but that wasn't needed. Bonus points for the rubber cap which I liked a lot! I think it's a great collection, not only for this season :)

These polishes cost $10 for 12ml and you can buy them in the I Love Nail Polish Etsy Store. You can also follow ILNP on the matching blog.

COLOR + TOP COAT = ENDLESS CREATIVITY

China Glaze® Introduces Tranzitions Color Changing Collection

Los Angeles, CA – (November 2012): There’s nail art and then there’s China Glaze® nail couture.  Reverse French manicure, half moons, ombre, basket weave, dots or racing stripes: nail designs are intricate and multi-colored.  China Glaze® introduces a new way to get multi-color, unique nail art with fewer bottles of polish with the new color-changing Tranzitions collection!

China Glaze® Tranzitions’ revolutionary new nail lacquer reacts when a clear top coat is applied, changing the color from one shade to another for a stunning effect.  Wear any of the six beautiful, color-shifting shades alone, or allow your creativity to run wild and create intricate nail designs by applying a top coat all over or strategically.  Try different looks using nail art brushes, free-hand designs or nail guides.  Because each shade changes color, you get two lacquers in one, creating an entirely new look with just one swipe.

The China Glaze® Tranzitions collection features six shades, though with the color transition, you get 12 unique shades including:

(image clickable for an enlargement)

·         Split Perso-NAIL-ity – Dusty pink shifts to fuchsia
·         Duplicityy – Mint green shifts to vibrant teal
·         Modify Me – Periwinkle blue shifts to indigo blue
·         Altered Reality – Teal blue shifts to turquoise
·         Metallic Metamorphosis – Silvery grey shifts to bluish-charcoal grey
·         Shape Shifter – Smokey violet shifts to dark purple

How It Works:
Step 1: Apply a base coat.
Step 2: Apply two coats of China Glaze® Tranzitions shade of choice.  Allow to completely dry.
Step 3: Lastly, apply one coat of clear top coat such as China Glaze® Fast Forward and watch the color change right before your eyes.

What do you think of these? I have a few polishes that work the same and I've never used them the way they're ment (only for stamping), because I always wear top coat. Having said that, these actually did get my interest, because on the images it looks like the bottom row might be more matte! If that's the case it would make them a lot more attractive to me, and then adding top coat could really create a nice matte/shiny effect in different colors as well :)

Instagram compilation #3

Hi guys! It's been a while and still no polish in this post, oops! It's just one of those periods where I have a lot on my mind and polishing has a lower priority. But as usual, I'll be back :) In fact, I did some swatching today and those polishes should be up on my blog tomorrow or this weekend. Thanks for sticking with me! ♥ Because I did want to post something today, I made another IG compilation.

1) Dewey often joins me in bed in the evening, then he gets all cuddly and adorable, aww!
2) Tried baking bread, ahh the smell of freshly baked bread. And they tasted nice too :)
3) I made a baby rattle toy (crochet), here it wasn't finished yet, I added another ring to it in pink. That became a pressie for my newborn niece! Big congrats again to my sister and her husband ♥ (and with becoming an aunt I instantly felt a lot older, lol!)
4) Polished painting in the making. Still isn't finished though!
5) A Swedish drink that I miss, love that stuff!
6) Gotta love cat paws, here foster kitty Salla shows hers.
7) Slacky Sue, but nothing new there!
8) Zwarte pieten! Went shopping the other day but didn't know Sinterklaas was in our town that day, so the whole city was filled with these.
9) The polishes that I swatched today, sparkly and original!

1) Adorable Sue :)
2) Salla in her cage in the quarantine of the shelter before she came home with me. She's still here, waiting for a new owner!
3) Turns out my phone makes pretty decent close-ups! That was a photo of this mani.
4) One of my all time favorites, nommm.
5) Getting more than 2k followers on IG, woah!
6) Looking at my snoozing cats always relaxes me :)
7) Finally got a new lamp for photos, haven't tested it properly yet (only for some quick photos today) but so far it looks good!
8) Bindi on top of the couch. A normal spot for my other 2, but seeing her there was so nice, a while ago she wouldn't have dared to go lie in the middle of the room like that! She's about 10 1/2 years old now and still improving ♥
9) So many wheels and I still know from almost all of them what polish it is, haha. I'm sure that sounds familiar to some of you =) And yet at times I have no idea what to use, feels like what I want to wear isn't in my stash then, bleh!

OPI Euro Centrale & Mariah Carey - Preview

Hi guys! I received the press releases from these 2 collections from the Dutch PR company. Usually I get the English ones first and I show those, but this time I'll make an exception and show the Dutch ones instead :)

There are a few polishes from both collections that I'd love to get my hands on, but I'm not so sure about textured nails yet. I think it might look great if it's more matte than fuzzy, if that makes sense! What do you think of these?

On a sidenote, life's a bit crazy atm, that's why my frontpage is filled with previews instead of nails. I'm sorry for that, and I hope to be back soon with my own polish pics! ♥

Catrice NEONaturals - Preview

The collection NEONaturals from Catrice has 6 nude polishes and 6 neons, and a nail art kit with a brush and tip guides. With the kit and these polishes you can easily create a nice contrast on your nails with a half moon mani. The collection will be available from mid December til mid Januari.

Top row, from left to right: Be Naturally Crazy, Natural Is Calling, Makes Me Smile, Enjoy Me, Have A Good Day, Be Natural.
Middle row, from left to right: Little Miss Sunshine, For Bright Guys, Mr. Brightsight, Mrs. Brightsight, Bright, Brighter & Brightest, On The Bright Side Of Life.
Bottom row: Nail art kit, €3,59.

I think the collection looks pretty nice and I can see how the nudes would combine with a neon half moon! Not sure how neon those will be of course, but the nudes look nice as well, so I'm sure some of these will end up in my stash :)

Double giraffe print

The plate that I used today has an image in 2 ways, which makes it great for accent nails. And that's exactly what I did with it :) At first I just wanted to stamp the same image on all nails, but ended up using the reverse image on my ringfinger. I do prefer it like it's on most of my nails, but an accentnail like this does add a fun extra to a mani! And I found out my basecolor covered enough that I probably could've gotten the same result by switching the polishes around and keeping 1 image, have to try it for stamping some time.

OPI Schnapps Out Of It! stamped with China Glaze Poetic and 2 images from BM plate 313.

As I mentionned in a previous post, I'm still looking for lightboxlamps and got some nice tips there. Thanks for those! :) For those of you who are wondering what lamps would be good, I can only tell you what I've heard from some other bloggers. I bought a daylight lamp myself, but as it turns out, there's a difference between a daylight lamp and a lamp that has daylight color, if that makes sense. So that lamp wasn't exactly doing the trick, heh. But Ivana was using a 6500 K cool daylight lamp, Salla was using a 4000k cool white lamp. She also said that 2.7k is warm yellow light, 4k neutral and 6.5k cool, blue light. (Things slowly started to make a bit more sense with their help, lol) When I find the right lamp that's working well for me, I'll of course post it here!

Thanks for looking!

How To: Polished paintings

This How To: is quite different than what you usually see on my blog. I've just started with this but wanted to share it already, because I think you can create great things with polish and canvas! A while ago I saw painting made with polish, and with the amount of polish that I have, I don't think it's a problem to use some on paintings. My awesome sister has a huge stash of hobby stuff so with her help I could easily get started ♥ But I struggled with hand drawing on a piece of canvas, and came up with another idea. If you like getting creative and don't mind using your pretty shinies, this might be fun for you as well :)

Materials needed:
- Painting canvas
- Polish
- Brushes
- Something to apply your polish to (I use -as always- my placemat)

Optional materials:
- Aceton
- Stamping stuff
- Dotting tools
- Sponge (for gradients)
- Straws (for splatters)
- Nail art pens
- Tape
- Saran wrap (for saran sponging)
- Hobby knife and/or scissors
- Shaped scissors
- Rhinestones, glitters, flakies, etc.
- A printed image for transfer
- Another copy of that image
- Alcohol and something to apply the alcohol with

If you want, you can of course just freehand something onto your canvas and go nuts with different polish techniques; use nail art pens for fine lines, go for big sugarspun lines, drip the polish on, decorate with glitters, rhinestones, etc.
Here are some quick examples of different techniques, as you can see using a brush with aceton can create a water color look. I used masking tape to make sure that the saran sponging and the stamping didn't go outside the golden background. If you stamp, make sure to press pretty hard on your stamp. As you can see, I didn't and because of the texture of the canvas, ir didn't transfer well on all spots. Although that can have it's charm as well!

But as I said before, freehanding didn't work out for me, so I decided to print an image and transfer it to the canvas. The images that I'm using are some of my mandalas. I applied the printed image upside down to the canvas and folded down the edges, to help me keep it in place. Because the paper is slightly see through, I could easily see if it was somewhat centered. The canvas that I'm using is 20x20 cm.

When the image is in place, use alcohol and a cotton pad (or something alike) and just keep rubbing the image. It's the same as doing newspaper nails, but then with a printed image and canvas instead of newspaper and nails :)

I did notice I had to keep adding alcohol and rub every spot quite a bit, but you can check in between by holding down 1 side of the paper on the canvas so it doesn't move, and peeking under the other side.

When it's transferred well enough, let the canvas dry.

When it's dry, you can start coloring it, here's the one that I'm working on now. Polishing like this reminded me of paint by numbers from when I was little :) I just went for basic polish for this one. Most polishes that I used did need 2-3 coats, but when the polish thickened up a bit on my placemat 1-2 coats were enough. You could of course just go for 1-coaters straight away, also to save polish!
I also noticed shimmers and glitters aren't as obvious as they'd be on your nails, because of the texture of the canvas (I don't plan on using top coat when I'm done :P), and metallics look great!
Here I'm working on the outer leaves kinda things.

You could also use saran wrap, sponging, splattering or stamping to add extra detail to your design, the area around it can be taped off (make sure the polish around it is fully dry) or use your second printed image and a hobby knife/scissors to cut out the area you want to work on. Then place the paper on your image and sponge/stamp/whatever.
The example on the photo here isn't flat because it's the image I used for transferring which got wet from the alcohol. I didn't print a second one of this image because it's my first one and I'm just going for basic polishing (maybe a rhinestone here and there, will see later).

I can't capture the shimmers and different shades so well, and my image is far from finished as you can see, but I really like how the image changes color depending on from what angle you look at it!

Because I'm not fully sure yet how I'll finish this painting and because it does take quite some time (at least, it's my first and so far I paint fairly slow), I went ahead and posted this how to already.

For my Dutch readers, you can buy canvas and brushes cheap at the Big Bazar, but Kruidvat and Action often have these kind of things as well!

Besides paintings, I also polished rings and wooden beads. My sister made a pretty necklace for my mum and included some of those beads as well, I think that was a nice personal gift :) You can see those beads here, and some polished rings here. But there's a lot more you can polish, like clear phonecases, Christmas decoration or even furniture!

I hope you enjoyed this different How To and that it might inspire to get creative as well :)

Not so Daring stripes!

One of the polishes that I bought in Sweden was still untried, time to change that! This Depend is a gorgeous purple with blue/green flecks. It looked darker on my nails than in the bottle, and depending on the light, more blue or purple (my photos show it more blue). And you know I prefer stamping on a creme base, but I thought oh why not, and picked a fine lined image to go with it :)

Depend 313 with China Glaze Deviantly Daring and BM plate 316.

I guess it doesn't come as a surprise that I mattified it! I love the shiny version and much prefer it like that, but wanted to share it matte as well. I always like seeing what a difference that can make :)

Which way do you prefer?

Have a lovely weekend all and thanks for looking ♥

No H8 with Ozotic from the vault

As you may have noticed, I normally don't often join in for special events, months with a color, etc. But today I'll make an exception, because I read some touching and familiar stories about bullying on other blogs today, and because of a recent thing about cleanup in the blogging community. I also planned on posting this older mani today, and it just so happens to be a purple (or well, at some angles it is :)), and combined I just felt like joining in this time.

Herôme W.I.C. Jaïpur with Ozotic Pro 506.

I didn't capture all colors in it, the purple and blue are most visible but it can look teal and brown-ish red as well. My indexfinger shows a hint of the teal here.

I'll leave my personal stories out of this post, but I'd like to share a bit of my view on polish and cleanup, because as I said above, the whole cleanup thing caused some drama recently. Colors and being creative are 2 things that are very important to me which combine great with polish and blogging, but I can be really perfectionistic about what I do.
But when it comes to other blogs I usually just enjoy the creativity, the enthousiasm of someone sharing their hobby, and all the pretty colors! And if I dislike something, I'd never leave a comment about it but just close the page instead. That I would do something in a different way does not mean that the other way is wrong, or that my way is better. When it's about cleanup, maybe another person doesn't care about it, isn't sure how to do it, or maybe even can't. What matters is that (s)he is happy with it, not if it matches someone else's ideals. Keep things lighthearted and fun! =)

"Bullying is not funny. It is not cool. It is not right. And more importantly, it is not okay.
Most of us are, thankfully, residents of countries that support tolerance and many of our families have settled in these places simply for that reason. Generations later, it is our responsibility to perpetuate that message of tolerance across our new social platforms, including the internet.

As members of the nail polish blogging community, we all share a love of beauty, color, and lacquer. Other than that, we are remarkably different: from our race to our religion to our hair color...even to our polish application techniques. To marginalize anyone because of those differences is completely unacceptable and today I take a stand against that. I refuse to allow other people's view of "normal" dictate how I behave, believe, and blog.

In solidarity with a multitude of bloggers linked below, my purple manicure represents my proud commitment to the No H8 movement. Today, November 8, I dedicate my post to ending bullying of any kind and to encouraging diversity and imperfection among our colorful community."
