Collage of the Month: July

Lots and lots of Dance Legend awesomeness last month, it was quite a challenge to pick just 1 photo from those multichromes, haha! Especially Different View gave me a hard time (so I'll just sneak in a link here), I added 2 more pictures to that post later on, and that polish is so very different in normal and sunlight! Gorgeous either way though ♥ Anyway, I have just a few DL polishes left, so this month will have more than just DL spam :) And I'm starting with another Essence preview, check back later today for their take on Fall this year!

NailMates review

Hi guys! NailMates recently contacted me to see if I was interested in doing a review, and at first I wasn't sure about that, because their site mentions gel polish and nail treatments. But then I read further and they mention glitter polish as well... now that could be interesting! By now I think most people are familiar with using aluminium foil to remove glitters (downside: having to cut it all and wrapping around your fingers), or with using a peel off basecoat (downside: not a good thing for people that are tempted to pick their nails). Could these NailMates be the thing that beats them? Let's see that further down, I've tested them on 2 manis, and I picked those polishes to test out my camera a bit more while I was at it :)

Here's what I received, 10 pink caps and a whole bunch of sponges - they're called pads but I don't want to get confuzing with cotton pads and these pads, so I'll refer to them as sponges in this post!

I went with this combo for 2 reasons: to test my camera with this color purple (which doesn't seem to be a problem if I manage to get the right settings, lol), and to test NailMates on a normal base with added glitters, because the removal of glitters with undies can be easier than with a pure glitter polish.

Essence Gabriella with China Glaze Techno

It's a big post, so adding a jump :)

Here are the instructions for these NailMates:

And here's how they look on my fingers, haha! Let's have a look at those steps mentionned:

1) I did not use a nail file to roughen up the surface of my nails, I never do so with the removal of glitters and I think it's enough hassle as it is, I don't want to have to take even more steps to get them off my nails! But I can imagine that's more important when using gel polish though, I think that's a standard step in the removal of gel polish?

2) I dipped only the tips of the sponges in remover (remover with acetone, but not 100% acetone), the remover quickly spreads itself and you don't need much remover at all to get enough on them. If you do get too much remover on them, you can just squeeze it out of the sponge.

3) Preload: check! I think this is handy about these, you can get it all ready in no time and just slide in your fingers.

4) This wasn't needed, they were big enough already, and fit surprisingly well on all fingers. They're obviously wide, but not so high, so they still fit pretty tight.

5) I didn't time it, but left them on for as long as I'd normally leave on alu foil.

The result? Top left was my first try, yikes! Top right was my middlefinger, where I pressed down hard on the sponge when wiping it off. That clearly gave a much better result, perfect!
But here's a problem I had with these, they feel smoother than my usual cotton pads and are less tight on the nail as well as my foil wrapping. So normally I can press down with ease and slide it all off in 1 go, but here I lacked a bit of grip and it kinda swooshed off my nail really fast when I pressed! So bottom left shows the result of that. Bottom right went better again, but this first attempt didn't convince me yet. I clearly need a little more practice in using these!
But I'm wondering though, if you're doing your own nails, how can you press down to clean it all when you're having these caps on all 10 fingers? So even though you could do 10 at once, I'd stick to 1 hand at a time :)

Yes, it's a lot easier to just grab this product, preload them and slide your fingers in than to cut pads and foil and wrap your fingers one by one, but with this try I still had to clean my fingers to get all those pesky little glitters off. I'm not sure, but it feels as if cotton pads also hold on to the glitters a bit more?

Next try, now with a pure glitter polish!

Back on the camera topic, I much prefer the first pic of this polish, but this one shows the colors nicely too! Now I just need to learn how to use my camera to get those 2 photos in 1, haha. I keep moving around my house, trying various light and even more settings, still a lot to learn but I'm really enjoying it :)

And back to the NailMates again! I left them on a bit longer than I did on the first attempt with them, and I used them right after swatching. I was hoping for a better result, because it was my 2nd attempt, but well... I guess this pic says it all. I think I just missed the grip that pads do give!

So to summarize, I think this product definitely has potential. Can I get these to work great with more practice? Oh, I probably can, and I will try them again as well! But I had high expectations and wanted it to work like a charm straight away, like I had with the other removal options for glitters. It absolutely has some pros though, they were easy to use and I did like the preloading and the little amount of remover needed. And I can see why this would be great for someone that uses gel polish or has clients with gel polish, but I can't test that so I'm basing my opinion on glitter polish only! And apparently you can sterilize both the caps and the sponges, so they do get bonuspoints for being reusable! So ya, I'll have to try them some more and I think it'll turn out fine then, but I don't want to keep testing until something works for me and then write a review, I want to share my first experience with a product when doing a review :)

What do you think of this product, is it anything you'd use? And if you have gel polish or other nail treatments, do you think this would work well for you?

You find more info about the NailMates and you can buy these products on their website.

Butterflies!

Yep, Big Bang had to be stamped too! =) I went with an image I've been wanting to try for quite some time, but just never ended up actually using it. But boy do I love it combined with Big Bang! I filled in the small holes in the image (which you can see here, in my review of the plateset) with white polish and a dotting tool, but that does show I could use more dotting practice, they all turned out way too big and uneven, haha! Ah well, I wanted to post it anyway because I think this polish and image are perfect for each other ♥

Pretty sure this was 3 coats, with top coat. Big Bang is from the Galaxy collection, and I've only tried half of them, but I do think they're all insanely awesome polishes!

This polish has Fall written all over it, but it's pretty all year round I'd say :)

Kittens! Kittens everywhere!

Hi lovelies! Yes, I said today's post would be another multichrome , but after sorting out a lot of kittenpics yesterday, I figured to share some of those here again :)
I'll start with Mobi - and his new little friend! But I'll also post some other kittens further down, I worked with some other fosterhomes to help with their photos to hopefully help the kittens get adopted quicker. I've done 1 of those little shoots at another fosterhome, the rest we combined the other day in the shelter, when the vet was there and they had to be there anyway. The result is obviously not as great as you can achieve in a safe environment (although some kittens didn't care much about the strange room and vet and all that, haha), but with a camera instead of like a mobile phone, the photos can turn out nicer nevertheless! Hope you'll enjoy seeing them too, but I'll add them below a jump so this post won't become as huge!

But first things first, Mobi! Mobi was so over the top playful and disrespectful to Dewey, that I discussed with the shelter to possibly return Mobi. But it's of course nicer for him to be adopted from my home, so we decided that if the shelter would get in a kitten around the same age, we would see if they could become friends and he would leave Dew alone more. So on Thursday the shelter contacted me, they had 1 hyper kitten of 14 weeks and 1 slightly scared kitten of 8 weeks, which is Mobi's age. Now Mobi's hyper too, all kittens are active but some kittens just add a bit more to that, he's definitely one of them :D But I was worried another hyper kitten that's so much older, could perhaps be a bit too much, especially since Mobi's surgery area played up a little the other day. So I went with the slightly scared kitten, who quickly showed here that's he's pretty scared, poor thing didn't even dare to move when Dew sniffed him! :( And Mobi? Turns out that little muppet can growl and be bitchy too, lol! So much for a little friend for him, haha. Luckily they did improve a lot since then, and this morning Mobi wasn't sitting at the front of the bench meowing at me, he was too busy jumping Colin, yay! And if that's not enough, he'll get a visitor on Wednesday, fingers crossed that it's a match!! Right, enough blabbering, photoooos!

Yes, Mobi really does loves to play, why settle with 1 mouse when you can have 2!

But with a little patience, he'll show he's quite a model too :)

And then it's back to playing again!

Near his beloved playtunnel

Yep, rolling around is fun too ^^

And here's Mobi playing with Dewey, poor thing just wanted to snooze, it was well over 30 degrees that day. Mobi does this allll the time, he keeps jumping Dew's head and body, slapping his paws, you name it! Dew became a bit rougher with him now too, but do you think little Moobster cares? He makes nasty sounds, hisses, and then quickly runs off when he gets out of those big paws. But then he stops like a meter away, sits for 2 seconds, and charges Dew again! My poor boy is really tired of it by now, and I can't blame him at all. That little ball of energy is just nuts! :D

And meet newcomer Colin! I called him Colin, since he was found at a restaurant in our town with a very similar name, so he's named after that. And I figured a little bit more posh name would match this beautiful little guy!
He was absolutely terrfied when he arrived here, he was found that night, brought to the shelter, there they checked him over and deflead him with spray (as you can see on his fur), and then the animal ambulance brought him here again, where he got caged up in the bench. Poor little creature :(There's a blanket over the bench although that doesn't show as well here, to help him feel safer. I took this photo a little while after he arrived, I'd say at least an hour later, when he finally dared to follow Dew with his eyes. Before that he just wanted to crawl into the walls and his eyes were even bigger than this :( Dewey's being absolutely brilliant with him though! ♥

I left him alone for some time, then started working with him, and I used Mobi to help Colin relax a little! It took a full basket of toys and Mobi running around like mad, but in the end he dared moving out of his safe corner a tiny bit to see what that black and white thing was doing!

And in the mean time, every time he dared looking at me, I blinked slowly with both eyes, and talked to him the whole time while I was playing with Mobi. The result? He blinked back, which was a big step already and my goal for the day, get him to relax just a little bit. Isn't he gorgeous? ♥

I don't have more pics of Colin yet, he enjoys hissing at me but secretly he does enjoy being petted too! He now also knows that hissing won't scare me off, and I know he won't attack, phew! First time touching was a bit scary, haha, but worth a risk seeing him relax :) And he already plays a bit, and he and Mobi are a bit more friends since last night too :) I hope he turns around quickly, so they can both be out during days, right now he'll just flee and hide if I would let him out. To be continued... :)

Check below if you're interested in the other kittens too:
Right, let's have a look at the other kittens! I do hope you'll enjoy seeing these as well! They're not my fosters, but cute nevertheless so I figured to share them anyway :)

So here's 2 little ladies first, one of them was a normal size kitten, the other one was like a miniaturekitten! Not skinny or any, just really small, and boy did she love to model! The other girl was a bit impressed by it all at first, took a while before she felt secure enough to relax more. It was near impossible to just choose 1 pic of each of them, but I'll post the whole series on my fosterblog :)

Top is the girl that needed a bit of time, bottom the mini-model!

Then at the shelter, they had 1 catroom empty, so plenty to see and do there for kittens - but also plenty spots to hide. So I decided to keep them higher up, on one of the shelves on the wall, they're there for cats to go up high, but also seem to work for these kinda pics, haha! Too bad of the background so to say, but I can't tell them to sit still in a nice little basket of course :D Again, all pics will end up on my fosterblog :) I still see points to improve on with these photos, my focuspoint for example was off here and there, but ah well. Twas the first time and they won't be shown full size online, which makes it less obvious anyway, and better luck next time!

First is this adorable little guy, he looked so funny, and he didn't care much about it al either :)

Next we have this girl, she was near impossible to capture! She just wanted to discover the entire room, and I ended up with moved pictures all over the place, haha!

Then we had 2 little brothers, too adorable!

Especially this one stole my heart, such a beauty, and I have several funny pics of him ♥

And lastly, a mum and her 4 kids. The kids were very impressed by it all, as you can probably tell, and I don't have too many nice pics of mum either. I could tell she was interested in things but also slightly on edge, so I didn't wanna keep clicking and bugging her. She sure did raise 4 pretties though! :)

Hope you'll enjoy this massive post :) Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
